Although it’s one of the smaller appliances in your kitchen, the garbage disposal is one of the most used devices in the home. It also takes the crown for being one of the most abused appliances, as many homeowners don’t know how to properly use and maintain it. Each time you go to use your garbage disposal, first turn on the cold water and let it run for approximately fifteen seconds before flipping the disposal switch on. Once you turn the appliance off, allow the water to run for another thirty seconds in order to flush out any leftover debris. If your garbage disposal ever breaks and is in need of replacement, a professional should be called to install the new unit and re-sync the plumbing and wiring.
